Casablanca, Morocco

Morocco is often used by tourists as the gateway to Africa and most of the tourists use Casablanca to enter the continent. The former French colony is known for a distinct charm and you will experience the cultural diversity too. The old walled Medina situated within wide boulevards and aesthetic Art Deco villas reflecting image of a European-style city is enticing- to say the least.

It happens to be the largest city of Morocco and Casablanca is the major port of the country too. The blend of architecture in the city is curiosity inducing. However, the city is also evolving and donning a cosmopolitan avatar with time. The high end boutiques, fast food chains and nightclubs stand in stark contrast to the century old villas and buildings.

Places to explore by walking in Casablanca
Casablanca has plenty of sightseeing and you can explore most of them by walking, which is convenient.

The Hassan II Mosque is an amazingly edifice that you should not miss while exploring the city. You can also explore the Mauresque buildings reflecting mix of traditional Moroccan style and French-colonial design.

The main square in Casablanca, namely the Place Mohammed V is ideal for exploring by foot. The region has a fountain and tourists also resort to feeding the pigeons here! The graceful square is encircled by beautiful architecture.

You will need 10 minutes of walk to reach the amazing Sacre Coeur Cathedral. It is not in use but the elegant white Neo-Gothic edifice is a crowd puller. You can also enjoy walking in the adjacent park amidst shady palms.
