INDIA, KIHIM (Maharashtra State)--an Almost All-in-One resort, Shyam Amladi

For those wanting to get away from the crowded beaches of Mumbai, Kihim is a natural alternative.

Kihim serves several purposes for a traveler.

  • It is an hour ferry ride from Gateway of India in Mumbai,
  • Its beaches are well kept and it is home to one of the eight religious Maharashtra based shrines of the Lord Ganesh, a venerated Hindu diety (actually about 6 miles away, in Alibag)
  • One of the few beach front places you can (almost) sleep under open skies (actually in a rather primitive tent-cabin!)
  • And,for Lepidropists (sorry, did we stump you? These are the fine folks who study butterflies) Kihim is home to some rare butterfly species like  Nymphalidae and Pieridae. But please confirm with the local tourist bureau for specific informatiom.

The beach is lined with coconut trees and offers a variety of activities for tourists.Note though the beach is sometimes polluted between clean-ups.

Kihim Beach is situated at a distance of 65 miles due south of Mumbai. You can board a ferry from Apollo Bunder (Mumbai) and get there in just over an one hour.
